Programme
9.00 Welcome and introduction Jenny Lockwood, Chair of SACRE
9.15-10.30 Session 1: Oracy in RE for 5-11s Lat Blaylock, RE Today
This session will present five flexible approaches to RE learning that enable pupils as listeners and talkers to deepen their understandings of religious and non-religious worldviews in the Worcestershire syllabus.
10.30-11.00 Break
11.00-12.00 Session 2: Enriching encounters with Muslims & Islam Stephen Pett, RE Today
The religion and worldviews approach looks to balance study of mainstream teachings with the everyday experiences of adherents within a tradition - ‘lived religion’, as it is known. To do that, we need to hear from Muslims to find out about the impact of being Muslim on their lives. This session will introduce some case studies and teaching and learning ideas for developing these richer encounters, for 5-11s.
12.00-12.45 Lunch
12.45-1.45 Session 3: Inspiring learning: using the arts in RE 4-11 Lat Blaylock
Fresh approaches to creative and imaginative work from the RE syllabus using arts and architecture from four religions.
2.00-3.30 Session 4: Meeting representatives from different worldviews
Individuals with religious and non-religious worldviews will be present for you to question. A ‘speed-dating’ approach allows you to meet each one, to hear their personal perspectives on living within their tradition and worldview, and to ask questions you have always wanted to ask!
