Case Study:

Respect for ALL day

School/Organisation Name:

10 primary and secondary schools in the West Midlands

What did they need?

There was a need to encourage pupils to learn from each other, across different age groups through dialogue and shared experience, promoting respect for all.

Working with RE Today

RE Today provided an interesting, exciting and educational experience. Teaching RE to pupils from West Midlands schools, to help develop pupils’ creative and expressive talents. It promoted excellent, open-minded RE and shared high quality teaching resources. The day was also set out to build community cohesion through open discussion and dialogue.

How did we do?

Teachers' quote:

‘I liked that the whole day was geared to empowering children to think about their own beliefs and identity’

Pupils' quote:

'Because I have been on this day, I will continue to have an open mind and treat everyone and everything equally!

Case Study:

Staff INSET day

School/Organisation Name:

Wenlock C of E Junior School

What did they need?

New staff in the school needed to be trained to become more confident in teaching RE and for existing staff to develop their RE teaching skills.

Working with RE Today

The school contacted an RE Today Adviser to book a CPD day. The Head of RE, decided the focus of the day. In the past the school focused on various teaching activities to engage the children and develop higher level thinking skills. This time the school wanted the staff to think about how RE is assessed; revisit some teaching activities and introduce Understanding Christianity. With this in mind, the RE Today Adviser developed a bespoke CPD programme for the day.

How did we do?

Debbie Williams, Head teacher, Wenlock C of E Junior School

'I would certainly recommend using RE Today for CPD. Most importantly is the fact that the CPD can be delivered to meet the needs of individual schools. One of the benefits of working with RE Today is that every member of staff leaves with new teaching ideas and sometimes the resources to immediately put into practice what has just been learnt. RE Today have helped us to develop RE within our school and local community of schools. It is great to have the whole teaching staff working on RE in an INSET day for a reasonable cost that can be shared by inviting other local schools. Excellent value for money!'
