How can we help pupils develop a rich and meaningful understanding of places of worship and what happens within them? This engaging and practical course explores one of RE Today’s best-selling resources What Happens In…? and focuses on how it can be used to enrich teaching and learning about places of worship across the primary phase.

Using detailed cutaway artworks from Buddhism, Christianity, Hindu Dharma, Islam, Judaism and Sikhi, participants will explore how the resource can support pupils in developing substantive knowledge, religious vocabulary and deeper understanding of religious practices and matters of central importance. The session will demonstrate a wide range of adaptable teaching, learning and assessment activities designed to engage pupils of different ages, while also developing oracy and deeper thinking within RE.

Participants will consider how the resource can be used to support learning, helping pupils to develop knowledge of and make meaningful connections between physical features, worship practices and the beliefs that underpin them.
