Julia Diamond Conway, National RE Adviser
Decades into her career, Julia remains deeply passionate about Religious Education and is committed to helping younger generations understand and navigate the religious and non-religious landscape of today and the future. With extensive experience across both classroom teaching and advisory roles, she has held positions including Advanced Skills Teacher for RE and Behaviour for Learning, Senior Teacher for Teaching and Learning, Year Group Leader, Class Teacher, RE Subject Leader, and Local Authority Leading Behaviour Teacher, as well as serving as a member of a SACRE committee.
Her work has primarily been in primary schools across London and the East, alongside a significant advisory role. She has supported a number of SACREs and worked closely with dioceses, local authorities, multi-academy trusts, and individual schools. She has developed and delivered a wide range of training, from large national conferences to tailored one-to-one support, and is known for her enthusiasm in working collaboratively with teachers and wider stakeholders in RE.
She has also played a key role in establishing Local Authority and diocesan Ambassadors of Faith and Belief programmes. Currently serving as Co-Chair of AREIAC (Association of RE Inspectors, Advisers and Consultants), she continues to influence and support high-quality RE practice nationally. While recognising that RE can feel daunting to teach, she is passionate about helping educators deliver it in engaging and meaningful ways that benefit pupils and are rewarding for staff.
