Community Cohesion - Respect through RE

Course Date: 04 October 2010

Aims of the day:

The course will enable teachers to:

  • Plan and deliver RE lessons for 5 – 11 year olds which actively explore ‘Respect for All’ with pupils
  • Think clearly through issues about the RE Curriculum and promotion of community cohesion
  • Explore tried and tested work on attitudes of respect for both Key Stages 1 and 2
  • Provide well thought out and inspiring learning methods for work on attitudes in RE
  • Apply creative learning and thinking skills in RE work on attitudes of respect

Tutors
This course will be presented by members of the RE Today advisory team, Lat Blaylock and Fiona Moss. They are both experienced teachers of RE and inspiring leaders of professional development.

Materials
Delegates will receive a folder of lesson materials, ideas and resources, along with a disk of the colour versions of materials (e.g. PowerPoint sequences) used on the day, including numerous practical classroom learning ideas that connect with Christianity, Islam, Hinduism and other religions. The resources will be available for delegates to use in their own schools.

Aims of the day
This one-day course is for NQTs in RE and for teachers with other specialisms and others who need to secure their RE work more carefully. It will provide practical inspiration for work in both Key Stages 3 and 4, giving participants many usable ideas for lessons as well as a grounding in the aims and concepts of RE. Teaching Islam, Christianity and other religions, the course will provide delegates with usable, assessable creative and thoughtful approaches to use in the classroom. This course will give you the confidence to be your own best when you teach RE.
