NATRE calls on the DfE to hold secondary schools to account

Almost one in three schools have told the DfE that they are breaking the law by providing no hours of RE and the DfE has still failed to act.

NATRE calls upon the Department for Education to take urgent action to prevent the rapid decline in the number of children receiving their legal entitlement to a comprehensive Religious Education.

This analysis of the school workforce data, collected in November 2016 by the Department for Education shows that the percentage of schools reporting that they are making no provision for RE for 16 year olds has increased from 28% in 2015 to 33.4% in 2016 even though it is a legal requirement for all to do so. Almost a quarter of schools, report providing no provision for RE to 11-13 year olds.
