Cleaner Medina is a True Tube film clip which describes a clean-up initiative run by the Muslim community in Birmingham. A variety of perspectives are expressed, including why a cleaner community is a healthier community, the impact of lack of attention from the local council, and how the initiatives ties in with Islam during Ramadan.
Classroom suggestions:
a) Ask students to watch the video presentation of the Birmingham initiative, and to identify and explain the connections presented between the environment and a) Ramadan and b) Jihad.
b) Students either express their own thoughts about responsibility for the environment, or make a video response and upload it to True Tube (guidance on how to do this is provided on the site).
