Muslim Aid Australia promotional video is a 9-minute video clip which expresses clearly and explicitly the religious basis of the charity. The video opens with a quotation from the Qur’an, the objectives of the charity are stated, and food aid given is shari’ah compliant. Examples of some of the things that can cause poverty are given, along with examples of projects and activities that Muslim Aid supports.
Classroom suggestions:
a) Before watching the video ask students to suggest what they think are characteristic features of a charity which is based on Muslim principles. Show students the video clip and ask them to look for evidence to suggest that their suggestions are right, wrong, or need adjusting. In small groups, students talk about their observations, and check / adjust their initial ideas.
b) Ask students to design a web page or flyer designed to encourage Muslims to donate to Muslim Aid’s work in a recent disaster zone (e.g. earthquake, flood, war).
