Do–It–Yourself-Deity is an interactive activity that invites you to select from a list the attributes you believe God must have. Metaphysical engineers then model this conception of God to check out its plausibility and provide on-screen feedback! This activity is suitable for more able students, and encourages clarity of thinking and justification of opinion.
Classroom suggestions
a) Introduce students to key terminology (e.g. omnipotent, omnibenevolent, omniscient, creator, sustainer, eternal, personal) – definitions are given in the resource.
b) Ask pupils to complete the activity; debrief responses. Connect comments to students’ understanding of the key words (omnipotent etc) and ask them to identify anything from the activity which they found challenging to their own prior thoughts / beliefs / ways of thinking.
