Master Teacher Standards proposed

Posted by: Rosemary, 24 October 2011

The Review of Teacher Standards has now formulated its draft proposal that there should be one further set of standards established in addition to the new teachers’ standards, and that these new higher-level standards should define the standards of those teachers whose practice is regarded as outstanding. The Review is provisionally calling these Master Teacher standards, and they envisage that these would replace the existing post-threshold, Excellent Teacher and Advanced Skills Teacher standards.

The draft proposal is below.

The Review is testing its first draft of the Master Teacher standards with key users of standards during a period of engagement, running from 21 October until 11 November 2011.

The Review is due to submit its final report and recommendations to the Secretary of State later in the autumn.
