Christianity - new publication for primary RE
Posted by: Rosemary, 10 January 2012
Opening Up Christianity, edited by Fiona Moss, is the latest in the primary curriculum series, and the fourth faith-specific book in the Opening Up RE series.
This book looks at some key themes within Christianity. The importance of story is explored with 4 – 6s through a treasure hunt. Sacred text is developed for 9 – 11s through the popular story of the Lost Son, using a graphic text, modern rewritings and online versions of the Bible. Work for 6 – 7s explores five ideas that Christians have about God. Easter has been explored well in Opening Up Easter, so this book explores preparation at Lent and Advent for 7 – 9s.
The importance of caring is explored through looking after animals, using story, singing and movement. 7 –11s enquire into the connection between what Christians believe and what they do whether in church or in the wider community.
For the subject leader there is a set of pages to support understanding of Christianity and teaching it accurately and appropriately.
