Examiners wanted
There is a regular need for examiners for both GSCE and A/AS level. The majority of examiners are practising school teachers, but others are eligible too. An Honours degree in the subject is particularly helpful. Examiners attend a standardising meeting and then mark 300-400 scripts over a 3-week period. They can call on telephone support from their team leader. Examiners are all paid for their work.

Examining is valuable experience, giving new insights into the specifications, expectations for particular gradings and how those in other schools are responding. Standardisation meetings provide the opportunity for contact with teachers from other schools/areas teaching to the same specification.
All of this could be especially useful for teachers preparing to return to work or who work as private tutors as well as classroom teachers and subject leaders.

The main recruitment website is at www.examinerrecruitment.org.
